AppleWorks allows you to save your datafile as "ASCII TEXT".  This resulting file is a tab-separated values (TSV) text file.  That is, each field value is separated by a tab character, and every record is separated by a return.

Bento 1.0 only imports comma-separated values (CSV) text files, so you will need to import the tab-separated text file into another application like Apple Numbers, FileMaker Pro, or Microsoft Excel and then export as a CSV text file.  Be sure to add the file extension .csv.  Otherwise, Bento will not recognize it as a CSV text file.

Bento 2, Bento 3 and Bento 4 imports tab-separated values (TSV) text files, so you can bring your AppleWorks text file directly into Bento 2, Bento 3 or Bento 4 without having to use an additional application.  However, make sure the AppleWorks text file extension is .tsv.  Otherwise, Bento 2/Bento 3/Bento 4 will not recognize it as a TSV text file when importing.

Since only the data is imported, all Forms and Templates in AppleWorks will need to be recreated within Bento 1.0, Bento 2, Bento 3 or Bento 4.
